Descrição

Plasmonic nanoparticles are promising materials for biomedical applications, especially in photothermia. Gold nanorods (NRs) are excellent materials for such applications because of their anisotropy, stability and tunable optical properties. (1) However, the passive targeting of NRs is insufficient for therapeutical use. Among the tools used to overcome this challenge, the coating of nanoparticles with endogenous materials has been considered by its low cost and biocompatibility. It is known that the presence of tetraspanin CD47 increases the circulation time, avoiding phagocytosis. (2) Additionally, the exosomes contains tetraspanins that promotes their use in cellular communication at long distances. (3) The goal of this project is to create a theranostic system that uses gold nanorods coated with extracellular vesicles (EVs) and cell membranes from RAW264.7 cells. TEM analysis revealed that the extracted extracellular vesicles presented a diameter of 30 nm and the membranes exhibited larger structures of 200 nm in diameter. Potential zeta values of the EVs was -18 mV and of the membrane was -27 mV. Results from functionalization showed that negatively charged nanorods possess a higher capability to embrace the cell membrane. (2)
